FROM NEGRO-VIDA TO PRETUGUÊS: CONTRIBUTIONS OF BRAZILIAN BLACK SOCIAL THOUGHT TO LAW

Abstract

This article aims to present the contributions of black Brazilian social thought to the recent Brazilian legal field. We adopted a literature review as a method. First, we present how the racial debate is addressed in classical Brazilian social thought. Next, we use the central categories in the thought of Lélia Gonzalez and Guerreiro Ramos, specifically the concepts of “amefricanity”, “pretuguês” and “negro-vida”, highlighting their fundamental contributions to black social thought. Then, based on research in journal databases, we demonstrate how the productions of these interpreters are currently mobilized by researchers in the field of law and race relations. We conclude that, in the last six years, black Brazilian social thought has been used to update academic research in the field of law and racial relations, mainly through papers and master’s dissertations, thus being fundamental for the racialization of the legal debate.
