Morning glory syndrome

SUMMARY

We present 9 cases of the Morning Glory Syndrome that is “Sindrome da Papila em Campainha”, name that the authors propose to the Portuguese Language (the plant’s name in Portuguese is “campainha”). The main aspects of the present study are the following:

  1. Autosomic Dominant Heredity sex controlled (only male patients in three consecutive generations) was present in one family.

  2. The syndrome was bilateral in all cases.

  3. The visual acuity was normal or almost normal in 69% of the cases.

  4. Microphthalmia associated to total Retinal Detachment was present in one eye.

  5. Hyperplastic Persistent Hyaloid (Primary) Vitreous was present in both eyes of one patient.

  6. Central degression in correspondence with the optic disc was found by B-Scan in four eyes.
