SUMMARY
The authors present a case of severe sympathetic post-phacoemulsification ophthalmia which was treated with systemic immunosuppression and enucleation of the sympathizing eye. The patient presented resolution of the inflammatory picture and improvement in visual acuity. The clinical characteristics, diagnosis, pathophysiology and therapeutic aspects of sympathetic ophthalmia are discussed.
