SUMMARY

A retrospective study of contact lenses fitting in unilateral traumatic aphakia was undertaken in 52 eyes of 52 patients, aging from 3 to 63 years. The most frequent type of trauma was perforation (55,77%). Success in contact lenses fitting was achieved in 84,61%. Poor visual acuity with contact lenses was the major factor for the insuccess of the remaining (15,39%).

Contact lenses intolerance was found to be the most common complication during the follow-up period. The contact lenses types fitting was: 47,73% diary soft contact lenses, 36,36% GP rigid contact lenses 15,91% rigid contact lenses. The final corrected visual acuity was 20/40 or better in 27 patients (51,92%). The causes of fitting insuccess are discussed.
