This paper analyses three international sustainable urban regeneration projects. The analysis was based on the application of ten urban sustainability indicators from two sustainability assessment tools (Sustainable Building Tool for Urban Planning in Portugal - SBToolPT-UP, and International Sustainable Building Tool for Urban Planning - SBTool Urban), which are being developed in Portugal and at international level, respectively. Based on that analysis, the aim of this paper is to identify best practices for sustainable urban design, which will allow the definition of benchmarks for both tools, in order to support designers in decision-making regarding the sustainability of new or regenerated urban areas.
