The gamma and normal distribution models were tested to estimate the probabilities of maximum daily wind velocity occurrence, by month, concerning 20 years of data for Campinas. The normal distribution model showed the best agreement between observed and estimated probabilities for all months. Results allowed to identify and quantify months with different levels of probability. September through November presented the highest values, May and June presented the lowest values of probability, specially concerning velocities of 20, 30, and 40 km/h. It was not observed pronounced variation among the months for velocities of 10 and 50 km/h.
