Project Russas: an example of sociological intervention

The process of intervention analyzed in this work was called "Project Russas" and began in 2000, in the city of Russas - Ceará. The objective was to eradicate and to prevent the infantile work, under the sponsorship of the BankBoston Foundation in partnership with other social actors. The Project Russas was an example of a successful social intervention: a systematic action against the exploitation of child labour made possible by its model of participation, which mobilized all community for one objective. In the Project Russas it was always clear the role of community in decision making. The community showed its ability to describe its own world and reality, to identify its difficulties and to offer viable suggestions. The technicians learned how to hear and, for this reason, intervened to change the instituted reality, to promote a rupture with the existing social balance, rescuing a dignity that has long been lost in economics network. It was an intervention project in which all participants won, especially children and adolescents. The city of Russas eradicated child labour.
