Mechanical control effect of Phyllostachys aurea Carr. ex A. & C. Rivi're in Vila Velha State Park - Paraná State

Abstract

The objective was to evaluate the effects of the different treatments for the control of Phyllostachys aurea Carr. ex A.& C. Rivi're. The design used was randomized blocks, with five treatments and four repetitions each. The treatments applied were: cutting the stalks and abandoning the area, cutting the stems and using a hoe, cutting the stems and overlapping plastic canvas, passing a leveling grid over the individuals and witness. After 120 days, the treatments were evaluated based on the number of individuals, basal area, volume and biomass of bamboo stems. For this purpose, data on neck diameter, DBH (diameter at breast height) and height of individuals above 1.30 m were collected. The results of the analysis of variance showed a significant effect for all treatments at the 95% probability level. The variables used as a comparative basis for evaluating treatments showed an average reduction of 84% for the number of stems, 92% in the basal area, 91% in volume and 90% in biomass after the treatments applied. It was concluded that the application of techniques based on the principles of mechanical control showed positive results for the reduction of Phyllostachys aurea. However, these were not enough to eradicate the species.
