Curricularization of university extension: The experience of the FCA UNICAMP public administration program

ABSTRACT

The so-called curricularization of university extension was expressed in a recent legal framework passed in Brazil. It entails concrete changes in traditional research and teaching, which reinforces the inducing characteristic of university extension. However, the curricularization of university extension poses a series of challenges for higher education institutions to adapt to this new reality. This article critically reflects on initiatives integrating pedagogical and extension practices in the Public Field. The objectives are to problematize and reflect on the challenges of curricularization of university extension in this field in light of the experience of the public administration program of the School of Applied Sciences at the University of Campinas (Unicamp), using the participant observation method. The program has been improving its pedagogical practices since the new National Curriculum Guidelines in 2014, and this movement has been strengthened after the Resolution CNE/CES 7/2018, with the implementation of initiatives that connect university courses to social impact projects.
