Ecuadorian youth in a pandemic: fractured time and space

Abstract:

This article evaluates some effects that the treatment of the Covid-19 pandemic has had on young people in Ecuador. To build the research, 28 young women and men from the three continental regions of Ecuador have been consulted through online focus groups. The research approach was qualitative, so that more than its representativeness as a statistical sample, the analysis of the stories and experiences of the people consulted was prioritized around two axes of discussion: space and time. The findings have allowed us to assess how economic inequalities and lack of access to opportunities, added to an always stigmatized vision of young people, has made this population the first victims of treatment of a pandemic that has forgotten the cultural possibilities of containment.
