ABSTRACT
In the film The second mother, directed by Anna Muylaert, it is possible to observe the establishment of a marketing-affective relationship between Val, a woman from Pernambuco who migrated to São Paulo to work as a maid, and the Bragança family, for which the employee works. A fetishistic relationship is established in the dissimulation on the part of the family with the real surname that Val belongs to the family despite, in all circumstances, treating her as a second-class citizen. The objective of this article is, therefore, to reflect on the fetishism of the equal, one of the forms of the fetishism of the commodity, which is unveiled from the arrival of Jessica, daughter of Val and who, by behaving as an equal, arouses hatred. The main theoretical framework of the work are the texts Capital by Karl Marx and Fetichismo - Colonizar o outro, by Professor Vladimir Safatle.
