Waste composting of poultry production: poultry litter and carcass

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of the process of composting in the treatment and the recycling of waste poultry litter and carcasses of dead birds. For both materials was prepared in the composter, alternate layers of poultry litter with 60 days, time necessary to occur prior decomposition of the carcasses and so the material can be manipulate and manufacture the compost piles. The parameters evaluated during composting were: weight, most probable number (MPN) of total and thermotolerant coliforms, total solids (TS), temperature, pH and the levels of N, P, K, Ca, Na, Mg, Fe, Zn and Cu. There were large reductions in ST and especially that of N during the composting reached 71.6% of losses. With the MPN of total coliforms and thermotolerant reductions reached 100%.
