Hermeneutics and health care in hypertension performed by nurses in family health strategy

Hypertension affects 20% of Brazilians, causes high mortality and financial costs. This study aimed to understand the meanings attributed to health care in hypertension by nurses in the Family Health in Pau dos Ferros/RN. A semi-structured interview was applied at 11 nurses of the teams. In the analysis it was used the hermeneutics of Gadamer. The meanings of health care obtained were: the care is not realized in team; nurse is concerned with the educational activities and organize the work for the teams; lack of support from local management to the monitoring program and hypertension control. It was noticed that the work from the teams were inauthentic with the Family Health program proposed. The nurses are not motivated to develop health education due to low compliance of users, but are recognized as essential; which need support in healthy management to perform a systematic care that meets the health needs.
