Interdisciplinarity of Brazilian Information Science: intensities and relationships

Abstract

Interdisciplinarity is in the genesis of Information Science as an area of knowledge, but there are controversies, and it is necessary to expand investigations. The aim of this article was to investigate interdisciplinary relationships and their intensities in Brazilian Information Science. Methodology: It was exploratory research, with an applied nature and a quantitative approach. The analyzed sample comprised the scientific production of 359 professors who work in 26 postgraduate programs in Information Science, registered in the Platform Lattes, from 2013 to 2020, totaling 1529 bibliographic records of articles with Qualis stratum. Bibliometrics and the Apriori algorithm were used as information analysis techniques to construct Association Rules, based on the co-authors' areas of expertise. The results achieved comprise a set of indicators: (1) evolution of co-authorship practices; (2) distribution of self-declared distinct areas; (3) identification of IS's interdisciplinary core, formed by the areas: Computer Science, Education, Administration, Communication, and Museology; (4) main themes investigated by IS in its interdisciplinary practices. Concludes that the generation of Rules of Association from the areas of expertise and scientific production, self-declared in the Platform Lattes, by teachers working in the postgraduate programs in Information Science, can contribute to the understanding of the complexities and intensities of Brazilian Information Science's interdisciplinary relationships.
