This paper analyses the current multicultural education both from a theoretical and a practical point of view. Using multicultural education as a frame of reference, it also defines the notion of intercultural education. Finally, it presents a general view of the research being carried out by the author at the Department of Education of the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). The project is mainly concerned with the discussion of the relationship between culture(s) and education in the Brazilian society.
