Like what happened in other countries in the same geographical area, in Portugal the development of schools' autonomy has also been associated to the idea that each school must create its educational project. Considering the perspectives of the organizational analysis, we present some of the theoretical assumptions that underpin these purposes and the requirements that must support the construction of educational projects in schools, at the level of participation, strategy and leadership.
