Body, person and organizations

Treated since the dawn of modernity strictly as a biological object, the human body has been recovered by Social Sciences as well as by Philosophy as a methodological device for the study of the human being and its socio-historical-cultural context. Organizational Studies has adapted some of the knowledge from these fields of study when they take the body as an important reference for the analysis of the organizational environment. It is through the recovery of this theoretical production of the body that this essay discusses how a specific way of presenting the body - the biological body - has been a mainstream paradigm for organizational theory and practice. We demonstrate a different approach to the human body - social body and embodiment - which impels a rethinking of administrative theory and practice.
