O processo sucessório em empresas familiares: o exemplo dos comerciantes e o processo no Saara

The central theme of this research is the succession process of the family companies. Our aim is describing the managers’opinion of this process in the commercial stores located at SAARA, in Rio de Janeiro. The instrument used to accomplish this objective was a questionnaire addressed to the founder/managers of those stores. The selection of the stores adopted the family organization concept assumed by Leone( 1992). The results of the research present that, although the succession process will be a natural procedure to be faced by 78,79% of the dirigeants, only 39,39% already planned the transmission of the leadership. The dirigeants, as a whole, want giving the command to one of their sons or to another family member. The family is the base of the planning process of succession. Although the theoretical knowledge concerning the question of succession process shows us that the future of these Organizations is mainly related to the planning and organization of this process, we could see that in the consulted stores that objective is not already considered by the nowadays leaders.
