Information management and the importance of use of sources for generation of knowledge

Information management was studied from the perspective of the identification and use of sources of information, as a means of generating organizational knowledge. Aimed to analyze the information management through the study of the use of sources of information in a research center. The methodology was developed a bibliographic, documental and descriptive study with a qualitative approach in a case study. As an instrument for data collection and used a structured interview was used content analysis as a technique for analyzing data. The results showed that the most used source of information is the colleague and the most used by respondents to upgrade is the Internet. The criteria of choice and quality of sources of information are more employees easy access, speed and reliability. The use of sources of information and evaluation of information culture is perceived to be only isolated informational behaviors, not a culture. The use of information and communication technologies, many benefits were appointed: speed and agility in information processing; production of information locally with global evaluation; cooperation in the planning stages to execution of projects; and increased interaction and exchange of documents.
