Publications of Psicologia: Ciência e Profissão in the Light of the Sociology of Absences

Abstract

This article aims to discuss these gaps/absences using, for this, the survey carried out by Guareschi, Galeano and Bicalho (2020)Guareschi, N. M. F., Galeano, G. B. & Bicalho, P. P. G. de. (2020). 40 anos: o que a Psicologia tem produzido enquanto ciência e profissão? Psicologia: Ciência e Profissão . 40, 1-12. https://doi.org/10.1590/1982-3703003237742.

of themes published in the journal from 2005 to 2018 and discussing it in the light of the sociology of absences. It is observed that although in a first reflection it may be thought that the themes absent in this journal have moved to other publication spaces, it is worth assessing in more detail what these absences and low frequency may mean. In general, they reveal that interests that are more localized, less cosmopolitan and outside the capitalist logic tend to be considered residual, inferior and local. Science following this logic excels in generalizable and international discussions with high internal validity. However, these discussions do not always reach topics with external and ecological validity or that respond to the specific demands of some populations that are not represented in general discussions. It is concluded that the exercise of science is to work in this tension with a view to seeking to highlight and provide spaces for interlocution for themes that, by themselves, and the light of globalized science, will not find spaces to reveal themselves and the darkness and absence will remain.
