Aspects of Clinical Practice in Psychology Focused on Workers’ Rehabilitation

Abstract

This study discusses the aspects of clinical practice in psychology focused on workers’ rehabilitation. A case study was undertaken concerning an intervention oriented toward a worker who was a victim of mutilation during an occupational accident. The results indicate that clinical practice permits the elaboration of mourning in response to functional losses and impaired body image, besides favoring the welcoming of a range of feelings linked to the accident. The institutional aspects that initially were not integrated into the understanding of the accident gradually gained a determining role in this event. Thus, the aspects of work organization could be understood from the occurrence of the accident. In conclusion, the intervention furthered the understanding of the meanings present in the occupational accident and constituent elements of the risk present in the work practice.
