Hospitality and Nomadic Religion: Identity over and Above Violence

ABSTRACT

This article is an attempt to read the synodal path developed by the Church in the Amazon, from the very first contributions, through the Synod in Rome and up to the publication of Pope Francis’ Post-Synodal Exhortation Querida Amazônia. To that end, the paper examines the discussion around the themes of synodality and ministeriality. Both issues have consequences for the formulation of a new theological reflection in this regard. As a main contribution, we present a view of the Amazon Synod well beyond the cliché commonly used by the mass media, and emphasize this synod as a starting point for the Church in the Amazon and in the world.
