Basic physical principles of the optical coherence tomography examination

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging modality capable of generating cross-sectional analysis of biological tissues. The OCT generates images from light reflected and backscattered by the materials, having several applications in various areas of health, such as ophthalmology, dermatology and dentistry, for example. The scope of this text is to present in a didactic way the principles of the operation of tomography obtained through coherent light sources.
