The specific charge of the electron: a historical and experimental approach

In this paper, we present a proposal to teach the ratio charge/mass of the electron to high school students. The theory is introduced using an appropriate text in the history of science, namely, Steven Weinberg's The Discovery of Subatomic Particles. Students perform four experiments appropriate to this level of teaching. They interact with the equipment and participate in the set up of the experiments. We describe the experiments and present their results.
