Mathematical model for reproducing ECG signals from real clinical conditions

Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of mortality in the world. The electrocardiogram exam is one of the ways to obtain a diagnosis related to cardiac diseases. The exam consists of recording the electric activity of the heart using electrodes positioned on the arms, legs, and thorax. In this work, we study the McSharry model that is able to mimic the characteristic signals of the electrocardiogram by three differential equations. Considering a noise and a sinusoidal term in the model, we verify that these modifications allow a change to the signal characteristic. We show that is possible to generate electrocardiogram signals similar to those that characterize cardiovascular diseases. We use real exams reported by Sociedade de Cardiologia do Estado do Rio de Janeiro to compare with our simulations.
