Abstract:
The authors report on the cognitive assessment of students during their internship at the School of Medicine in Teresópolis, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, in January-March 2002. Several instruments for assessing medical students during internship are discussed, comparing the results from this stage with those of their undergraduate training as a whole. The authors present several proposals for a more appropriate choice of some instruments and their method of use, in addition to criticizing final exams as a single instrument for assessing the interns' cognitive performance.
