Evaluation of Students: an Impasse in Medical Education

Abstract:

This study was developed to expand the recent reflections on the need to change existing teaching practices in medical courses, with a special focus on evaluation of students. The theoretical basis includes concepts on teaching, learning, evaluation, and the theory of social representation. Observing these basic concepts, interviews were held with faculty and Students at the School of Medicine in Petrópolis. Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, seeking to identify concepts and possible transformations in the ways of evaluating students, and to raise questions that might help establish new avenues for alternatives practices.
