Reflections about the Approach of Clinical Governance in Health Education

ABSTRACT

The design of a health system of free and universal coverage, based on the constitutionally guaranteed right to health in its broadest sense, represents a major breakthrough for public health in Brazil. However, persistent problems have hindered its implementation, such as mismanagement and lack of resources, combined with the continental dimensions of the country and the considerable differences between its regions, resulting in impaired access, quality and efficiency of healthcare in the Unified Health System (SUS)1. In this context, it is urgent to change the current health care model, as well as the profile of the health care professional built into it. This paper refers to the learning experience of a SUS doctor in a course on Clinical Governance in Health Regions of the SUS, and the contribution of active teaching and learning methodologies to expanding the acquisition of new content applicable to professional practice. It is a report of an SUS doctor’s experience and her reflections on this new theme, guided by a new learning method.
