The judgment of fame: moralities and emotions in the conversion testimony narratives of the evangelical artistic world

Abstract: The objective of this article is to investigate how the relationship between evangelical religiosities and the media in the present day is effected based on the testimonies of conversion of people considered famous and components of the artistic world in Brazil. Based on the theories and methods develop by the anthropology of emotions and moralities, we seek to analyze the discursive styles of these testimonial narratives. The judgments of fame, that is, the evaluations and moral judgments of the experiences lived in Brazilian show business effectuated by the evangelical artists studied in this text deal with good and evil, renown and forgetfulness, joys and sufferings, interpretations that accompany the typical movements of unstable careers built in the context of the cultural industry.
