Epidemiologia da raiva humana na Guanabara

Human rabies is still a serious Pablic Health problem, especially in urban areas, where the dog is the main reservoir and immediate source of infection. Failure of the dog oontrol programs, human immunization and health education helps to mantain the epidemiologic chain. The authors analyzed all cases of human rabies observed in the State or Guanabara between 1965 and 1969, according to the following variables: age, sex, race, seasonal variation, ineubation period, lenght of the clinicai stage, source of infection and vaccination after contact. The main results of the study are as follows: 1. In the State of Guanabara, human rabies seems to be more frequent in the younger age groups and in men. 2. Seasonal variation has not been observed. 3. The median for the incubation period was 45 days and for the length of the clinicai stage, 3 days. 4. An association between a short incubation period and vaccination after contact has been observed
