ABSTRACT

This article aimed at talking about the aging process, questioning the practices in health for the elderly population in Brazil. For this, from the methodology of literature review, we developed a text that initially discusses some definitions and conceptual terms of the field of Gerontology, from the dialogue between different theoretical and conceptual perspectives. Then, it presents some historical, epidemiological and socio-cultural aspects by the aging process, in order that later, it is possible to make connections between the aspects presented and the practices of health care today.
