The care of oneself as an ethical principle of nursing's work

Based on the understanding that the act of care and work are essentially human in nature, we seek to discuss them within the current context. The fragmentation of knowledge in the area of nursing has been the source of de-humanization of care and the care-giving processes. Through studies in governability, Foucault enables the understanding of the bases that make us moral agents. These bases lead us to our choices and to what we use to guide our values. It is possible to think of nursing care and of the work of this professional category as a process that needs to be re-signified through ethics that use the aesthetics of existence as its everyday proposal. In this sense, the care of oneself, the sharing within groups and mutual ethics can be the starting points for reconstructing the value of our professional choices, restoring their human nature.
