Abstract

The theme of this article is interdisciplinarity from the intersections between History and Information Science. The general objective is to identify which are the historiographical currents most used in scientific articles in the field Information Science, retrieved from Web of Science. Therefore, the following specific objectives are defined: a) Briefly describe the historiographical currents identified in the subarea of Theory of History; (b) Characterize the quantitative and qualitative aspects of the production retrieved in Web of Science; (c) Categorize the productions retrieved in Web of Science into sub-areas, based on the themes of these scientific productions; d) Identify the historiographical currents and the most used history authors in the production retrieved in Web of Science. In the methodological aspect, it is about basic, qualitative, descriptive and exploratory research, with a technical procedure of bibliographic research and narrative literature review. As a result, the main historiographical currents and general data on scientific production are presented. The main themes that relate History to Information Science are: oral history, local history, history of the book, history of teaching and the relationship between Information Science and the history of health information. The authors that serve as a reference for both areas are Michel Foucault and Peter Burke, and the historiographical currents of greatest influence on Information Science are the New Cultural History and the Annales School. It is concluded that the authors’ influence and the historiographical currents found give the international scientific production in the area of Information Science a critical, political, cultural and social character.
