Horizontes Antropológicos is committed to good practices and ethics in the management of manuscripts, expressed in the guidelines below:
1 - Horizontes Antropológicos publishes original/unpublished works in the form of articles and interviews in Portuguese, Spanish, French or English.
1.1 - Authors who have their work published must observe the interval of 18 months, from the date of publication, before submitting a new article.
2 - The maximum number of authors per article is four. For each call for papers, we accept the submission of only one work per author.
2.1 - The submission of papers must be held in the SEER platform (https://seer.ufrgs.br/horizontesantropologicos) and the authors must inform the following data: name, e-mail, ORCID number and institutional affiliation (with City, State and Country). To ensure the integrity of the blind peer review, the authors must exclude any identification of authorship in the texts, including references and footnotes. In Microsoft Office and PDF (Adobe Acrobat) files, the authorship ID must be removed from the document properties. We do not accept duplication of publication or translation of articles already published in another journal or as a book chapter.
2.2 - If there is interest from the authors, the articles can be previously made available in the preprint mode at https://preprints.scielo.org/index.php/scielo/index. For this, it is necessary to accept the requirements for compliance with Open Science (and request the form by e-mail horizontes@ufrgs.br). In this form, the authors inform: (a) if the manuscript is a preprint and, if so, its location; (b) whether data, program codes and other materials underlying the text of the manuscript are properly cited and referenced; and, (c) openness options are accepted in the peer review process.
2.3 As an expression of transparency and recognition of the different contributions to the research, the final text, in the case of approval for publication, must inform at the end, in a precise manner, the specific contributions of each author. The authors should also formally specify potential conflicts of interest in their research.
2.4 - Articles must have a title that objectively represents their content, also be written in double space and have up to 10,000 words, including references and notes. In the of empirical research, the text can reach 11,000 words and must present the methodology: how the observations were collected; where and how the observations were extracted, what documents and files were consulted, in what place and date; which questions from which surveys were analyzed; in what context, place and date/time period the fieldwork was carried out; how many people were interviewed; which guide was used; which observation technique was employed, etc. It should also explain how the observations were analyzed, what were the methods and techniques used in the production of each graph, table, figure, description and interpretations.
2.5 - Articles must contain an abstract written in simple space and with up to 150 words and four keywords, as well as a Spanish version of the abstract, keywords and title.
3 - For quotes and references, the journal follows the ABNT (Brazilian Association of Technical Norms) standards NBR 10520 and NBR 6023, respectively.
3.1 - Notes must appear at the bottom of the page (as footnotes). Bibliographical references must appear in the end of the text and ordered alphabetically.
3.2 - Direct quotes must appear in the main body of the text in the following manner: author's last name, year of publication, page indication. In the indirect quotes, the page indication is optional, according to the following models:

3.3 - Direct quotes with more than three lines must appear in small print, without quotation marks, in single-spaced text; transcriptions of interviews must follow the same format, as in the example:
One view stresses the "vertical" element in faith, the relationship to God; and it selects certain persons, institutions, objects which in a privileged way are held to give access to the divine clearly and unmistakably. […] The other view of the sacred refuses to localize it in the people, places and things. (Hebblethwaite, 1975, p. 15).
3.4 - Bibliographical references at the end of the text must follow the guidelines:

3.5 - In the main body of the text, authors must follow a consistent typographical style and use capital letters only when absolutely necessary:
a) italics: for foreign words and emphasis;
b) double quotes: in direct quotes with less than 3 lines; in words which have an unusual connotation and in those which should receive particular emphasis;
c) bold type and underlining should be avoided.
4 - Any illustrations (including diagrams and graphics) must be sent in TIFF format (without compression), in the final size intended for publication and at 300 dpi resolution. Maximum width: 4.56 inches (11,6 cm) and maximum height: 6.3 inches (16 cm) or 1368 by 1890 pixels.
5 - The publication of the articles will be decided by the editors of the journal and the coordinators of the issue, taking into consideration the peer reviews.
6 - In order to broaden the collection of collaborations, Horizontes Antropológicos makes a wide dissemination of the theme of its forthcoming issues and of the respective coordinators on the back cover of the printed version, on its website (https://www.ufrgs.br/ppgas/index.php/en/revistas/horizontes-antropologicos-1), on social media, on specialized blogs and on newsletters of social sciences professional associations.
Copyright statement
Submission of works automatically implies the immediate and free assignment of copyright to the journal, which is affiliated to the Creative Commons Attribution CC-BY License. The author is fully responsible for the content of the article and continues to hold all copyrights for subsequent publication, and must, if possible, include the reference to the first publication in Horizontes Antropológicos.
The articles, after examination by the editors, are evaluated by experts from national and international institutions of teaching and/or research. To be accepted, articles must be considered by the editors must receive two favorable reviews and incorporate suggestions of the reviewers in their final version.
There is no fee for submission, evaluation and publication of articles.
