International symposium of fruitculture

The International Symposium of Fruitculture, Sinfruit with the theme "Advances in Fruit Production", was held in Campinas, SP, where it was founded the Brazilian Society of Fruitculture, 40 years ago. With the support of several former presidents and the current, Prof. Abel Rebouças São José. Campinas was chosen because it is the headquarters of the BSF, and the first congress of the Society was done there, besides offering very good infrastructure conditions by the Instituto Agronômico de Campinas, the place of the event. Furthermore the IAC has a group of renowned experts in fruitculture, whose in their major-ity contributed in the Organizing Committee of the Sinfruit.

From October 17th to October 21st, 2011, the event program included five international conferences and 12 renowned experts from Brazil, beyond a day reserved for presentations in form of poster or oral, which were presented over 150 papers and four technical lectures from Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico and Chile that spoke about fruit growing in their home countries. A day of visits was also organized at the Citrus Center in Cordeirópolis with a lecture on citrus, a visit to the Ceasa and other to the IAC Quarantine Greenhouse, with a lecture on Temperate Fruits in the institution.

The program Sinfruit attended to several areas of the Fruitculture, with the main focus the theme of the event, Advances in Fruit Production. Besides allowing the submission of papers, some of them are being published on the Brazilian Magazine of Fruitculture, an extra number, online, as well as all conferences and lectures on fruit growing in several countries. It is the first BMF published only online, which has greater capacity for content, including photographic, and has a lower cost compared to the paper edition.

The Sinfruit was a promotion of BSF, also commemorating 40 years of the Society. It also aims to fill a gap between the Brazilian Congress of Fruitculture, usually very competitive, with more than 2000 papers presented, which shows the strength of its research area. The BSF was supported by the IAC, ITAL, CATI, UNESP, SP SECRETARY OF AGRICULTURE, ISTH, CNPq and FAPESP, in addition to several private companies. The Fundag and the Infobibos were responsible by the organization of the event.
